God's Overwhelming Love

Do you ever stop and just ponder the vastness of God's love for you? The almighty, infinite, eternal God looks down into time and loves you. You - wherever you are, whoever you are, whatever you've done. He loves you with an everlasting love. He has called you by name. You are precious in His sight. He has provided the means of reconciliation, so that you might be able to enter into a relationship with Him.

Therefore, you are loved, so no matter what you face, you do not face it alone. He is with you. He is "God with us". No trial is too great. No hurt is too deep. No betrayal is too painful. No persecution too severe. God is love. And, He loves you. Nothing can separate you from God's love.

Christ's Preeminence

"If Christ is truly preeminent in our lives, then we will glorify Him by keeping pure, by enjoying fellowship with other saints, by loving each other at home and being faithful at work, and by seeking to witness for Christ and serve Him effectively. Unless doctrine leads to duty, it is of no use to us."

Not in Vain

"Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places." (Habakkuk 3:17-19, ESV)

Sometimes all our work seems in vain. The trees have been planted. The crops have been sown. The work has been done. The long hours have been put in. And yet, nothing. No fruit. No results. Not even the faintest sign of a green leaf. Was it all in vain? Was the work worth it?

Take hope. The story is not yet finished. God is still at work. Be faithful in your service. Keep on plodding. Put one foot in front of the other. Keep planting God's word in your life and in the lives of others. It will not return empty. God is the source of our strength. Rejoice in Him. His name will be glorified.

Reacting with Grace

Because I have access to God's grace through Christ, God's grace needs to spill out of my life day by day.

This is then evidenced in how I interact with others. I am no better than anyone else. We are all created in the image of God. If you are a believer, we have equal standing before Christ.

On the merit of those two facts, I have no reason to consider myself better than you. That means that there is no room for prejudice, harmful criticism, or arrogance in my interactions with you. I need to respond to others graciously -- extending the benefit of doubt and undeserved favor to you.

I'm not saying I have achieved this, but this needs to be my goal. And the way I cultivate this goal is to become increasingly more aware of God's grace towards me.

Be Still

The wind is blowing,
rocks are crashing,
yet the Lord is not there.

The earth is quaking,
boulders are shaking,
yet the Lord is not there.

The fire is raging,
smoke is billowing,
yet the Lord is not there.

Out of the turmoil
after the conflict
quietly comes the voice of the Lord.

"I am still God.
I still control the earth;
I still control the nations.

Even through the storms,
even through the wars,
I am still God.

"Be still. Know Me.
I am with you.
I know you. I still have use for you.

"Be still. Follow Me.
I, the Lord over all,
Am working out My perfect plan."
